History of Stacyville Community Nursing Home
In August of 1965, seventy interested community members met to form a corporation to build a community nursing home. The fundraising goal was $150,000. In October of 1965, Carl Brown Construction began laying the drainage tile on the site on the south end of the city. The vision of community leaders was becoming reality. The Stacyville Community Nursing Home was built in 1966 as an Intermediate Health Care Facility to provide the best in nursing care and personal attention to all residents of the facility. The first directors of the newly formed corporation were Joseph A. Niess, Chairman; Bernard May, Vice-Chairman; and Ralph Beland, Secretary-Treasurer. Over 1200 people attended the Open House in January of 1967. The first resident was admitted January 19, 1967. The home was planned by the community and is governed by a seven-member board of local people, elected by the shareholders.
The original 35 beds were increased to 47 in 1971. In May of 1983, an Open House was again held to show off a new residential wing consisting of 2 double rooms and 14 single rooms. The lobby of the nursing home was enlarged also. The expansion included a new activity room with a small kitchen which can be used for residents’ daily events, family gatherings and community meetings.
Now in 2018, we continue to strive to treat each resident with the respect, dignity, and understanding with which we expect to be treated and to give each resident the love and compassion which we hope to receive.
